Yōkai are vengeful spirits or demons of Japanese folklore. They are shapeshifters that can take the forms of humans, animals or inanimate objects.

History[]

Wellington Police Paranormal Unit officers O’Leary and Minogue were sent to the Lower Hutt region to investigate reports from the nearby flats of possible ghost sightings. When they arrived, all they found was a white plastic bag floating in the wind. The officers took the bag to the station, where Sergeant Maaka speculated that it may be a yōkai. He stored the bag in his filing cabinet for safekeeping.

That night, the bag escaped from the cabinet and attacked Maaka by attaching itself to his face. After he was able to pull off the bag and stuff it into a bin, he realised it really was a yōkai.[1]
