"Witches" is the ninth episode of the second season of What We Do in the Shadows. It aired on June 3rd, 2020.

Synopsis[]

When Nandor and Laszlo are abducted by a coven of witches, the others must venture Brooklyn to rescue them.[1]

Plot Summary[]

Nandor agrees to give Guillermo one day off per week, which makes him consider taking up a part-time job. On Guillermo’s free night, Laszlo is lured by a talking goat, Black Peter, and abducted from the yard by an unseen force. When the roommates head outside to look for him, Nandor sees Peter and is also taken away by a group of witches riding broomsticks in the air. Guillermo agrees to drive after them with Nadja and Colin Robinson.

Guillermo follows the witches to an aromatherapy store, Satchel Serafina, in Brooklyn. Nadja persuades Guillermo to go inside, claiming they wouldn’t sense him. While the shopkeeper, Quinn, distracts Guillermo with a face massage, Black Peter spots Nadja and Colin and they are both teleported away. Quinn lures Guillermo away from the shopfront and locks him with Nadja and Colin in a strange, tall room covered in doors.

Laszlo and Nandor find themselves shackled in a room with a coven of young witches, who perform a seductive dance. The head witch, Lilith, announces that the witches will carry out a procedure to remove the vampires’ semen, which the vampires look forward to until they realise it will involve the use of 18th century surgical tools. The witches revert to their "true" forms, revealing themselves to be elderly.

Meanwhile, Guillermo, Nadja and Colin try to escape their room, finding several disturbing encounters when they try the different doors. Guillermo eventually finds the correct exit. The three head to the room with all the witches and Colin takes credit for their escape, causing the witches to shackle him too. Lilith’s appearance infuriates Nadja; she reveals that they used to be friends until Lilith slept with Laszlo. Lilith reveals that they will use the semen for anti-aging magic, and that she had shapeshifted into Nadja’s appearance in order to seduce Laszlo. She demonstrates this ability, making Nadja even angrier as she obviously does not look or sound the same as her. When Laszlo admits that he cannot tell the two apart, and that at some point he had also slept with Nandor and another witch in the coven, Nadja becomes so fed up that she refuses to help the other vampires. Guillermo steps in and makes a deal to regularly sell Nandor and Laszlo’s semen to the witches so that their supply will not run out. The witches agree to this and free their captives.

Upon returning home, the roommates find that Black Peter has trashed the house and possibly harmed Nadja Doll. Nadja relegates Laszlo to the coffin in the basement, and he and Nandor agree to "finish each other off". Guillermo embraces his new enterprise and bonds with Black Peter, who reveals that he serves the witches in the hope of becoming one himself, something he suspects may not happen.
