Wiremu is a Wellington resident who became the subject of an investigation involving ghosts. He appears in Wellington Paranormal.
Biography[]
In 2001, when Wiremu was a young man, he was due to attend a Wellington Sevens match with six of his friends, all of which dressed as Where's Wally, and he intended to travel in the same car. He missed the pickup as he was busy talking to a woman at a bar. All six friends died on the way to the match when their car collided with another, jettisoned off a highway and crashed into the side of an office block. Wiremu led a relatively normal life, marrying the woman at the bar, having several children and divorcing, but he remained traumatised by his loss of his friends.
Exactly 20 years after the crash, the six friends came back to the mortal realm as ghosts and began appearing around Wellington, mistaking people dressed like Wally for Wiremu and trying to abduct them. When the ghosts abducted the investigating officer Minogue, Sergeant Maaka had O'Leary and Parker head to Wiremu's house in Upper Hutt to lead the ghosts there.
O'Leary broke the news of the ghosts' return to a shocked Wiremu. She radioed Minogue and the ghost car immediately arrived. Wiremu was delighted to be reunited with his friends and explained what he had been up to since the crash, but regretfully told them that he would not be joining them for the Sevens game as they were all dead. To mark the occasion, Wiremu posed for photos with his friends while wearing his own Wally costume. He then bid the ghosts farewell as they drove away to Hamilton, the new location of the Sevens, unaware that the 2021 tournament had been cancelled.[1]
