What We Do in the Shadows: Interviews With Some Vampires is a 2005 short mockumentary film written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, and a precursor to the feature-length film What We Do in the Shadows.

The short film focuses on several main characters from the feature-length film (Deacon, Viago, Nick and Stu), all of which are played by the same actors. With the exception of Stu, their personalities and backgrounds are mostly different to their feature-length counterparts, the film is therefore not considered canon to the rest of the What We Do in the Shadows franchise. Instead of Vladislav, Jemaine Clement plays a vampire named Vulvus, who is also dissimiliar.

The short film is available as an extra on the Blu-ray of the 2014 film.[1]

Plot Summary[]

A documentary crew follows three vampire roommates in Wellington: Viago, Deacon and Vulvus. They describe their life experiences and answer frequently asked questions about being a vampire. They argue over household chores, but are shown carrying them out. Their pretentious vampire friend Nick hovers outside the window to say hello.

Later, the roommates explore the nightlife of Wellington and encounter homophobic abuse from passers-by. Realising their favourite nightclub is closed, Deacon grows tired and flies home as a bat. The other two meet Nick and his human friend, Stu, at another club. Nick bites the neck of a drunken woman, forcing the group to flee. They are then seen at a café, sitting silently while Stu eats chips.

Later, Viago gets “drunk” and accidentally smacks into a parked car while in bat form. He returns home and prepares for sleep as the sunrise begins.
