Vulvus, also known as Vulvus the Abhorrent, is a 700 or 701 year old vampire. He appears in the short film What We Do in the Shadows: Interviews with Some Vampires.
Biography[]
In his human life, Vulvus was a member of royalty. His father was also a vampire and his mother made cakes. He is not sure of his age because his mother forgot his date of birth.
He lived in Wellington with two younger vampire roommates, Count Viago and Deacon Brugh. In 2005, they were interviewed by a documentary crew on their life experiences and answered frequently asked questions about being a vampire. They were filmed arguing over household chores before carrying them out.
Later, the roommates explored the nightlife of Wellington and encountered homophobic abuse from passers-by. Realising their favourite nightclub was closed, Deacon grew tired and flew home as a bat. The other two met their acquaintance Nick and his human friend, Stu, at another club. Nick bit the neck of a drunken woman, forcing the group to flee. They were then seen at a café, sitting silently while Stu ate chips.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- Vulvus is the only main character of the short film to not appear in the feature-length film What We Do in the Shadows. Instead, Jemaine Clement plays the vampire Vladislav. Some of Vulvus’ character traits were present in Vladislav for the film.
