Professor Abraham Van Helsing, more commonly known as Van Helsing, is a legendary vampire hunter and an ancestor of Silvia and Guillermo de la Cruz.[1] He is mentioned in the What We Do in the Shadows TV series.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Widely believed to be fictional, Van Helsing was a key protagonist of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula, where he defeated the powerful titular vampire.

The Guide had an affair with Van Helsing, with her punishment for her indiscretion being to work as the guide for the Vampiric Council.[2]

At some point the Vampiric Council acquired his severed penis and kept it in a jar in the Chamber of Curiosities.[3]

What We Do in the Shadows, Season 1: 2019[]

In 2019, Guillermo had his own DNA tested and found that he was descended from a Dutch family named Van Helsing. He initially laughed this off, saying that “Van Helsing isn't real", but immediately realized most people didn’t believe vampires are real either. This discovery, along with Nandor’s continuing mistreatment of Guillermo, led him to wonder if his fate really lay in vampire hunting.[1]
