The Mosquito Collectors of the Tri-State Area is a vampire hunting group in Staten Island. They appear in What We Do in the Shadows (TV series).
History[]
The group was most likely established around 2019-2020 and for a while only consisted for four members: Derek, Shanice, Tonya and their leader Claude. The familiar Guillermo accidentally stumbled upon the group while looking for virgins. They revealed that "mosquitoes" were actually a front and unrelated to the group's actual purpose, other than being a metaphor for vampirism.
At the time, the only member of the group who had even met a vampire was Shanice, Jenna's roommate, who joined the group after she was turned by Nadja. Jenna was Shanice's first friend so her loss affected her deeply. Her story finally reminded Guillermo that the vampires' victims are human, with friends and family who are left behind when they're killed. The group then encouraged Guillermo to join them for crossbow practice, which he turned out to be amazing at. A flustered Guillermo made his excuses and left the meeting early.[1]
Guillermo decided to continue meeting the Mosquito Collectors in order to infiltrate the group. At his second meeting, the members discussed the house which Shanice believed to be one of the last known locations of Jenna and left in a van belonging to Derek’s mother to slay the residents inside. Believing the house to be his residence, Guillermo panicked, but was relieved when it turned out to be a completely different home. However, the house actually belonged to an even bigger group of vampires, the Hustle Dynasty. The hunters snuck in, split up and discovered multiple sleeping residents, who suddenly awoke and attacked them. Guillermo fought them off, killing several of them, and rescued Shanice, Claude and Tonya, but was unable to save Derek, who was taken by the vampires. The group drove away in the van in a state of shock.[2]
When the Vampiric Council found out about the deaths of the Hustle Dynasty members, they blamed the killings on Guillermo’s vampire masters and attempted to execute them. The execution was foiled by Guillermo.[3]
