"The Casino" is the fourth episode of the third season of What We Do in the Shadows. It aired on September 16, 2021.
Synopsis[]
The vampires embark on a road trip from which they may never return.
Plot Summary[]
Sean and Charmaine Rinaldi invite the vampire household to spend several nights in Atlantic City to celebrate their 20th anniversary and wedding vow renewal. During dinner on the first night, Nandor urges the other vampires to be nicer to Guillermo. Nadja then joins Charmaine and her friends to see a Rat Pack tribute act and meets them backstage, thinking they are the real Rat Pack she used to be friends with.
During the day, Nandor, Nadja and Laszlo struggle to sleep and are horrified to discover that the soils of their homelands, which were placed under their beds to help them sleep, have gone missing. Colin Robinson realises that housekeeping accidentally hoovered them up during the night hours. The vampires send Guillermo to fly to London, Antipaxos and the Southern Iranian border to collect new soil.
Over the following nights, the vampires' powers weaken and their energy begins to drain. In order to pay for Guillermo's plane tickets, Laszlo asks to borrow Sean's emergency credit card and he agrees, despite the lack of hypnosis. Laszlo begins to feel guilty about taking advantage of his best friend, and feels worse when he discovers that Sean has a gambling problem and has lost all his money on the trip. Nadja, in a bewildered state, attempts to seduce the Rat Pack tribute act into giving her money. Deeming her to be very unwell, the group give her the money they have on them, which totals to only around $300. Meanwhile, Nandor becomes contemplative and has Colin teach him about the Big Bang theory and the nature of the universe.
Guillermo successfully gathers soil from all three countries and flies back to Atlantic City. The vampires sleep restfully and regain their powers. With the help of Guillermo, they place a large bet on a boxing match and hypnotise the competitors to fix the match. Their betting candidate, Eli Jackson, wins (by punching his opponent Arturo Rodriguez so hard that his head flies off) and the vampires earn enough money to repay Sean and recover his lost money.
As the roommates board the coach to return they present Guillermo with a doily as a thank you gift.
