"Revengers" is the fifth episode of the third series of Wellington Paranormal, and the eighteenth episode overall. It aired on 24 March 2021.

Synopsis[]

A meteor strike gives superpowers to a Neighbourhood Watch group who decide to take the law into their own hands; it's up to Minogue and O'Leary to take the law back.[1]

Plot Summary[]

As O'Leary and Minogue interview a woman who has been speeding in Naenae, a purple meteorite crashes into the road nearby. The officers check in on the nearby residents. Bill, an electrician and member of the Neighbourhood Watch, describes receiving an electrical surge while working on his fuse box that left him unharmed. Fellow Watch member Molly reports that her cat, Chairman Meow, has suddenly ran away and the cops unsuccessfully help her look for them. Molly gets into an argument with her neighbour George and leaps away like a cat when he sprays her with a hose. The meteorite is taken to the station.

At the station briefing, Maaka criticises the force for not stopping a robbery that was foiled by a vigilante group. Maaka has the Paranormal Unit investigate the case due to the unusual way the vigilantes have apprehended their targets and wiped the nearby CCTV footage. The officers then interview a young man who has been stuck to a wall by a large mass of hair while he was spraying graffiti. He describes being vomited on by an older woman and zapped with electricity by a unarmed man.

Back at the station, the Paranormal Unit analyse the meteorite. Parker comes in without a hazmat suit and accidentally touches the meteorite, causing him to become magnetic. O'Leary suspects the meterorite has given people super powers, and the officers leave to address reports that a burglar has been apprehended by a superhero group at a Naenae pharmacy.

Minogue and O'Leary find the burglar tied to post by electrical tape. He describes the vigilante group as a cat-like woman, a man with “electricity hands” and with a “weird girl” who kept making “random comments”. The robber shows them a photo on his phone and the cops realise they are the Neighbourhood Watch members. As the cops drive him to the station, they stop to rescue a man targeted by the Watch for not picking up his dog's poo. The car breaks down and the man is dragged out by an electrical force. The officers pursue on foot and encounter the Neighbourhood Watch, who now call themselves “The Revengers”. Bill now goes by Power Man Bill, Molly is Cat Lady, and they have been receiving reports of crime from Google Girl, a woman who has absorbed the knowledge of the internet. George arrives, requesting to join the team as he has gained the ability to shoot water out of his hands, but the group reject him. Maaka sends Parker to the scene to use his powers to fight them but gets knocked out by a bin. George tries to fight off Power Man Bill with water and he counteracts with electricity, resulting in a huge shockwave of power that depletes the powers of all the superheroes in the vicinity.
