The mobot was a robot made from numerous samples of outdated technology. It appeared in Wellington Paranormal.

Biography[]

It is not known how exactly the mobot came to be, but it is implied that it was the result of signals from a radio communications tower at Mount Victoria. One night, hundreds of gadgets, aged between two and twenty years old and from houses in the circumference around the tower disappeared. The following night, the same thing happened in houses positioned in a smaller concentric circle. The Paranormal Unit realised that the next likely location for disappearances was a house next to the tower, which happened to be owned by Officer O’Leary’s mother.

O’Leary and Minogue held a stakeout at the house that night, laying multiple outdated phones on the floor as bait. The phones suddenly became active and joined together in the form of a large “snake” on the floor, taking Minogue’s Taser and escaping through the cat flap. The officers discovered multiple small robots outside, all formed from phones and other gadgets. The officers struggled to apprehend the robots as they dispersed across the area and O’Leary was tased by the snake robot, which had now increased in size to become a scorpion robot.

O’Leary and Minogue drove back to the radio tower, escaping an attack from a robot made of vape pens. They saw the robots reassemble into one large humanoid mobot. The mobot spoke to the officers, explaining that it was primarily run from the cell phone O’Leary had not used since 2004. It expressed dismay at being made of parts that have been resigned to draws, insisting that it is just as capable as new technology. When challenged, it launched several small drones at the officers, which failed to scare them away. An “update” appeared on the screen of the mobot and it asked O’Leary to activate it since it had vape pens for fingers. Feeling sorry for it, O’Leary agreed, and the mobot declared itself free – to erase the human race and replace it with super-intelligent robots. It started to climb the tower so it could transmit to all available technology, but stalled halfway and fell to pieces. It was speculated that this was because the mobot simply couldn’t handle the new updates.[1]
