Jim the Vampire is a vampire who appears in the What We Do in the Shadows TV series.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Around 1853, fellow vampire Laszlo Cravensworth travelled to California in the hope of doing a deal with the Devil in order to become a better guitarist. He rented Jim’s beach house in San Diego and neglected to pay the final month’s rent and the security deposit. Jim was so angry that he spent the next 167 years looking for Laszlo.
What We Do in the Shadows, Season 2: 2020[]
In 2020, Jim finally tracked down Laszlo outside his home in Staten Island and demanded he either pay the money back for the beach house or fight him in a duel. Laszlo chose the latter and fled to Clairton, Pennsylvania, when Jim’s back was turned. Laszlo adopted a disguise and a new human alias, Jackie Daytona, and took over Lucky Brew’s Bar and Grill as a bartender. ‘Jackie’ was immediately popular with the townspeople and became a dedicated supporter of the local women’s volleyball team, the Bucks, and boosted their success.
When the Bucks realized they couldn’t afford to apply for the state tournament fees, Laszlo decided the bar would host a talent show to raise money. During the promotion for the event, Jim stumbled into the bar, but did not recognize Laszlo and asked him to keep an eye out for him.
Feeling sad for the volleyball team, Jim attended the talent show, despite struggling to afford the tickets. On the night of the show, Jim realized Jackie was Laszlo from his lack of reflection in a mirror and fought him. As the guests fled in terror, Laszlo tried to fight back with fire-breathing, but accidentally burnt all the money raised. The two vampires immediately stopped fighting and talked over their differences. Laszlo offered Jim the bar’s Big Mouth Billy Bass toy, claiming it was a Mechanical Turk in fish form, which left Jim so happy that he called off the debt. Laszlo hypnotized the townspeople into forgetting the incident and left Pennsylvania after encouraging the Bucks to take on Jim as another coach. Jim embraced his new role, but during one match, his Billy Bass broke and the team’s other coach, Swanson, casually offered to buy him a new one. Jim was furious to realize that Laszlo had ripped him off again.[1]
