Jan is a vampire and the leader of the Post-Chiropteran Wellness Center cult in Staten Island. She appears in What We Do in the Shadows.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Jan set up a cult based in the Post-Chiropteran Wellness Center in Staten Island. She targeted vampires who were sick of their undead status and wanted to become humans. She ran aerobics exercises and helped the members adapt to ordinary human life. All members, including Jan, also had their fangs removed on a daily basis.

What We Do in the Shadows, Season 3: 2021[]

In 2021, Jan gained the attention of the Vampiric Council when she failed to pay her union fees for 132 years. When Nandor confronted her, she said she hadn’t paid as she was no longer a vampire, and invited him to join her group. Nandor accepted the offer and became a fully-fledged member of her cult.

Guillermo grew concerned for Nandor's safety and sneaked into the wellness center to check on him during one of Jan's aerobics classes. Jan quickly spotted Guillermo and the group realized he was a vampire hunter. She ordered the group to attack him and he fought back, harming several vampires while dragging Nandor away.

As the injured vampires recuperated, they prepared to turn on Jan. She convinced them all that they had all become human again and encouraged them to run outside and embrace the sunlight for the final stage. All the cult members burned to death, leaving Jan to wonder how she could gain new members.[1]

Behind the Scenes[]

During the scene where Jan teaches the other vampires-turned-human how to smile, Cree Summer improvised the line "This is especially important for the women when you're an expert about something and a man is explaining it to you - strained eyes, but really big smile." This scene was initially going to be removed to shorten the runtime, but Yana Gorskaya and Stefani Robinson both petitioned for it to be kept in, as both of them related to the line.[2]
