"Ghosts" is the second episode of the second season of What We Do in the Shadows. It aired on April 15, 2020.
Synopsis[]
The vampires hold a séance to deal with a ghost infestation, which leads to a larger ghost infestation.
Plot Summary[]
Several objects in the vampire residence become misplaced or vandalised. Laszlo and Nandor initially blame Guillermo, but Nadja correctly concludes that ghosts are to blame. The residents hold a séance led by Nadja, who becomes annoyed and storms out when Nandor, Laszlo and Colin Robinson make silly jokes. Outside, Nadja finds the ghost of Jeff Suckler. Laszlo notices and requests Nandor fight him off, but he is unable to attack him due to Jeff being incorporeal. Jeff asks Nadja to help him complete his unfinished business, but she refuses to listen as she is no longer interested in Gregor now that he doesn’t have a physical body.
The vampires reconvene in the house and Laszlo points out that as he, Nadja and Nandor are all former humans who have died, they may have ghost versions of themselves. The roommates hold another séance and the vampires’ ghosts all appear. Each vampire decides to spend time with their corresponding ghost to help them complete their unfinished business so they can leave.
Laszlo’s ghost explains that since he died while having sex with Nadja, his unfinished business is to have an orgasm, which he cannot complete by himself because he has ghost hands. Meanwhile, Nandor and his ghost cannot understand each other as the ghost can only speak Persian, a language that Nandor has forgotten. The ghost finds a painting of a human Nandor riding his horse, Jahan, and Nandor realises that the unfinished business is to be reunited with him. Nandor, his ghost and Colin hold another séance and successfully bring Jahan’s ghost back. Nandor reveals that he had to eat Jahan when he became stranded in a situation where no food was available, and the experience left him deeply sad. Both he and the ghost are overjoyed to see Jahan back and Nandor’s ghost leaves with him.
Nadja's ghost is furious when she realises Nadja has not made any major achievements despite having lived for several centuries. It becomes apparent that her unfinished business is to see Nadja achieve something. The two however become friends over their similarities and Nadja decides she wants her ghost to secretly stay for a while as she makes more enjoyable company than her male roommates. In the attic, Nadja finds a doll and encourages her ghost to disguise herself by possessing it. Jeff comes in and Nadja demands he leave, although her ghost takes a liking to him. Nadja finds Laszlo downstairs and he confirms that he helped his ghost finish his business.
Colin holds a séance alone and summons the ghost of his grandmother so that he could finally tell his “updog” joke that he had been bothering the other residents with. Although she is happy to see him, Colin says he is too busy to catch up and blows out the candle, causing her to disappear.
