"Gail" is the third episode of the third season of What We Do in the Shadows. It aired on September 9, 2021.
Synopsis[]
An old flame returns and an ancient vehicle is resurrected.
Plot Summary[]
Nandor reconnects with Gail, his on-and-off human girlfriend of the last 40 years. Nandor's male roommates all assume that Nadja hates Gail just because they are both women, but in reality Nadja only disapproves of Nandor’s relationship because he keeps reconnecting with Gail, offering to turn her into a vampire and getting rejected. Nadja and Guillermo are dismayed to find out that Nandor is planning to propose to her.
Nandor invites Gail to the house and slips away to prepare for his proposal. Gail insists on hurrying away, and Nadja tries to make her stay. Gail runs outside and transforms into a werewolf under the full moon.
Meanwhile, in a secret room inside the library of the Temple of Blood-Devourers, Laszlo discovers his old car, a Stutz Laszlo, which was confiscated by the Vampiric Council because he used it to transport coal miners across state borders. Laszlo assumes the room was built around the car and tries to drive it through the wall, but the car ends up worse off. Colin Robinson tries to help him repair it and he completely dismantles it, the two take the individual pieces outside and knock over several valuable artefacts while doing so. As the two reassemble the car outside, the Guide arrives and chastises them for destroying so many artefacts and failing to realize there was a garage door the car could have driven out of. Colin then catches fire when he tries to refuel the jalopy.
The roommates confront Nandor for knowingly dating a werewolf. Nandor insists their relationship is fine and encourages the group to meet her pack, which turns out to be the Staten Island Werewolf Support Group. The pack are willing to keep the peace, but the roommates find Gail kissing her fellow pack member Anton, who had recently turned her into a werewolf. Tensions flare up again and Guillermo has the two groups settle their differences “Twilight-style” with a game of kickball. The game comes to an abrupt end when Nadja accidentally kicks the ball into the watching Gail's face, knocking her off the bench to her death. To save her, Nandor bites her neck and drips his blood into her mouth, bringing her back as a vampire-werewolf hybrid. Nandor proposes to Gail and she rejects him as she is not interested in getting married again so soon. Gail leaves to go to the airport to visit her daughter and clumsily flies away in a wolf-like bat form.
Laszlo and Colin successfully fix the car and take the roommates on a drive as the werewolves chase after them.
