"Fatberg" is the sixth episode of the third series of Wellington Paranormal, and the nineteenth episode overall. It aired on 31 March 2021.

Synopsis[]

When a large, congealed blob of fat in the Wellington sewers becomes sentient, Minogue and O'Leary go underground to confront the monster.[1]

Plot Summary[]

O'Leary and Minogue head to a car wash where a number of passengers have mysteriously disappeared. After finding a car containing only globules of fat, they drive through the wash and find their vehicle surrounded by multiple people submerged in a pink, blob-like substance. As the officers exit the wash, the blob seeps through the drain.

At the station, Sergeant Maaka recovers a remnant of the blob from Minogue for inspection in the lab and sends the two officers to the Waterloo area to investigate reports of a strange smell and multiple missing pets. As they interview a resident, Marlene, her husband Neil is sucked into their toilet. The cops drag him out of the drain in the road and he describes having felt the sensation of his body and mind merging with the blob.

Back at the station lab, Maaka, confirms that the blob is a fatberg that became sentient. He sends Minogue and O'Leary into the sewers, led by council worker Michelle Raro. They are pursued by the fatberg and escape to the surface after one of the cameramen is consumed. The blob emerges from a takeaway restaurant above and eats up more people.

Back at the lab, Maaka successfully uses fire to immediately destroy the fatberg sample. He races to the scene with Parker, along with several illegal fireworks he had recently confiscated. The police throw the fireworks into the blob, and after some difficulty, light the fuse from a distance. The blob is torn apart by the explosion, but all the people inside it are unharmed.
